What I Did Right Last Year

Recap

Last year at this time, I didn't take the time to reflect on the previous year, and I didn't do a good job of planning out my upcoming year.  Because of this, I feel like I spent the first part of the year being inefficient.  I spent too much time on each class in school, I didn't get started on any sort of fitness goals until over halfway into the year and my house went from being super organized for my brother's visit for Christmas to a chaotic mess again.

What Went Right

Clothing
For the first time in my life, I have a wardrobe that works. For every occasion that happened last year I had the right clothes to wear available and that I felt good in. I have to credit a lot of that comfortable feeling to the fact that I obsessively track my wardrobe in Airtable.

Airtable is a freemium platform that allows you to better visualize spreadsheets. I have every wardrobe item entered in this platform with a picture, description, pricing and category.  As I wear items, I put them onto an items worn calendar which then tracks the cost per wear of each item.

This has given me a lot of useful information and has made it so that I know what items I haven't worn in a while and those items that I really don't like wearing.

Here is a list of the items that have the lowest cost per wear:

As you can see, I have worn my favorite skirt 90 times now!!

I can also sort by least recently worn, highest cost per wear and more. I can also see that my wardrobe has a total paid price of over $13,000.  Does that seem like a lot?  Keep in mind that this does include shoes and outerwear, but does not include handbags. I would like to prevent that number from growing too much more, but I bet most of us have more money invested in clothes than we think. It is still a shocking number to see.

Health - Mental, Physical and Otherwise
I had wanted to see a therapist for most of my life, but I never really knew who to see or if I could afford it. I got a great recommendation to someone who I have been working with for most of the year. I am not going to really get into this here, but it has been a good experience.

I also *made* myself go to all of the doctors and yearly tests that I should have at this point.  Again, the biggest issues that I had with going to the doctor was finding someone good to go to.

At the second half of the year, I made a food lifestyle choice based on talking to my therapist. I went back and forth between joining a weight loss community again or doing it on my own. I thought about seeing a weight loss doctor or a nutritionist, but in the end I decided to do your basic calories in/calories out paired with intermittent fasting and weighing myself everyday. That all lead to a 25 pound weight loss last year. I wish I would have started it earlier in the year, but I keep telling myself that I need to quit worrying about timelines.

Work
I was able to get the company that I work for to move forward towards a more unified way of doing things that will give them the foundation that they need to grow in the future. This involved taking a lot of scattered systems and putting them together in a way that made sense.

Ill check back tomorrow with what I would like to accomplish next year and the rules for my budget.

How I screwed up - January Review

I started out this month with a specific goal in mind with specific rules. I am not happy to say that I broke all of the rules. I thought about keeping all of this to myself, but in the interest of transparency and the fact that this blog is mostly for me, I am going to spill the beans and walk through all of my thoughts on what I did. I feel that, if anyone is actually reading this, knowing that I didn't waltz through this experiment perfectly is probably more useful than being dishonest about it. Here is a list of all of the things that I bought in January - sanctioned or not. Makeup/Beauty Purchases: 1. Tati Beauty Sponge things - I am happy with my current method of applying makeup and foundation and my husband just bought me the fanciest brush that I own. The total of this purchase was $22.72.   I didn't need this. It isn't replacing anything that I have used up. This was 100% a purchase that went against my rules, especially considering that January was suppos...

January Foundation Project: Day 14

It isn't January anymore, but the project goes on.  I should have three more days including this one then I will talk about my February Project. I have liked powder foundations since I bought a compact of the Body and Soul Powder Foundation about 15 years ago. This has long since been discontinued and I have always missed it. I have also tried several powder foundations trying to get something similar. This powder foundation is the closest I have found and I really do like it. This is the Aquasurance Compact Foundation in ACF101 Ivory .  I already know that I like this foundation and I plan to repurchase it in the future, but I have been using this mostly on the weekends and for touchups. I wanted to give this a try as a workday foundation.  To do so, I sort of kept Taylor Wynn's Powder Foundation tutorial in mind and opted to use the Tati Beauty Blendiful for application because powder puff type applicators work really well with this type of product (More on the B...

January Empties

I made some progress on my stuff this month, but as you will notice, there is only one makeup product in this batch.  These are the things that I legitimately used up and are true empties: Soap and Glory Flake Away Body Polish: I like having a scrub for my weekly soak, and I like Soap and Glory products, but I really don't like the standard Soap and Glory scent. I would consider getting this again in a different scent and I like that Walgreens frequently has sales on this product. EVO Salty Dog: A salt spray is one of the staple products that I like to have around to get the texture in my hair after I wash it.  I like this spray. The scent is light and it has a pretty good hold. I have used better salt sprays, but this one doesn't dry my hair out or leave it sticky which is about what I am looking for in a salt spray. I may buy this again when I work through the sprays that I have, but I would like to find something less expensive and easier to get. Solid and Strip...
